As poets, the editors of Heliotrope write in discernably different voices. They have been delighted to discover how editorial judgements, time and again, overlap. A new voice, that of Laurel Blossom, the magazine's newest editor, has, if anything, only strengthened this counterpoint.

Each reading session includes one "designated listener," an editor who hasn't yet seen the poems, but who listens as poems are read aloud. Discussions are vigorous. We have, so far, avoided using form responses.

Each issue is arranged by finding "pairings" of poems, then splitting the pairs of poems within the pages of the magazine. Sometimes the poems of a particular contributor find places in disparate parts of the book, but the book always has a narrative.

As you read the magazine from cover to cover, we hope that a narrative suggests itself; we welcome your responses, both to the magazine and to this website.

If you are considering sending us poems, we welcome all submissions, but we strongly suggest that you both visit our Submissions Guidelines, listed in this website and purchase a sample copy of Heliotrope, to get the flavor of the magazine, and to support us in our efforts.
